Hey guys and gals.

Sorry for the lack of updates this month, things have been a little crazy on the personal front of late. My Nana, who has been fighting dementia for sometime now broke her collarbone on Boxing Day and her hip a few days later. Since then we have been in and out of the hospital on a daily basis visiting her and trying to sort out some new accommodation for her as she is unable to return to her current home. As things stand right now we have managed to find her a new nursing home to move into but she will be remaining at the hospital for at least another two weeks.

Con season is gearing up and I’m pleased to announce that the very first con I will be attending this year will be “Adventures in Comics” in my hometown of Margate. How I missed out on this last year is beyond me. I’m looking forward to meeting some new people and checking out some of the comic book artwork in their “Lifeboat” gallery. From what I can see on their website there’s some awesome stuff being sent in. Speaking of which, have a look at the awesome inks and colours Mike Bunt and Nadine Ashworth (respectively) did on my pencils for Mike Garley’s script.

Well guys, that's another festive period in the bag and a new year started. I made it out with the worlds most comfortable pair of slippers and a Nintendo 3DS. So if anyone fancies some Mario Kart action, get in touch and I'll hook you up with my friend code so we can have some monsterous races.

Speaking of monsterous, how's this pin-up I just finished up for a good friend.

As always guys, I love nothing more than to keep busy and to keep that pencil moving, so please, if you've been looking to get an artist on a project and have been putting it off for whatever reason, now is the time to strike. It's a new year, fire up the e-mail machine and reach out to me.

Big Uncle Stuey: Zombie Puncher.

One of the advantages of being an artist is that you never have to spend out on birthday or Christmas pressies (although I almost always do). But with money currently being tighter that lycra on a fat wrestler ass, I broke out the pencils for my good friend Stuey.

As a quick side note, Eva and I once worked out a set of short stories featuring Stuey as a submission to the now defunk DFC comic. Unfortunaly the DFC folded the very day that our submission was complete. For what it's worth though (for any publishers reading) "Big Uncle Stuey" is a story about a caring Uncle and the tall tales he tells his nephews. It ships in three page blocks and features dinosaurs, spacemen, superheroes, lizardmen, pirates, ninjas, monkeys, elephants, carrots, boybands in custard, soggy slippers, cans of dog food and whatever else I feel like drawing on the day.

In this instance, Big Uncle Stuey does battle with the undead, a personal favourite of the birthday boy in question.

A look back at 2011.

Hey guys and gals.

That festive season is upon us once again and is the perfect opportunity for me to pimp myself on you all and suggest that you buy your loved ones one of my wonderful paintings, awesome sketches or bloody good books. All of which are available through this here website.

2011 has been a year of ups and downs for me. I received my first major UK publishing gig through those fine people at 2000AD. Something that I am very proud of and an achievement I’m banking on besting in 2012.

The low of the year for me has been (something I’ve not really acknowledged publicly before) has been my battle with stress and depression. This is something that is unfortunately common in artists, especially during times of financial woe. An artists motivation to work can be an uphill battle at times and climbing that hill on medication can often make it feel like its an icy one. Mood swings and anger management issues have also hampered my progression, but with my frequent doctors meetings I hope to be off of the pills and ready to push that pencil even harder in the New Year.

I’m not mentioning this now to gain your sympathy and trick you into buying my art or sending me money (although my paypal is webs2099@yahoo.com ) but as an acknowledgement of my support to fellow creators who may be in the same boat.

There are some very talented people out there who are dealing with some very upsetting issues, issues that can seem magnified by the extra stress and panic of trying to get everything sorted for Christmas.

I really want to say, stay strong guys. I know it’s been a tough year, but with the help and support of those around us, we can and we will make it.

Thank you for putting up with me this year Eva, I love you. Here’s to the next three years of marriage, and the 50 beyond that.

Batman sketch.

Hey guys.

I've been going through some of my old sketchbooks this week trying to piece together some old comics that I'd started on my own with promise of taking to the next level that have unfortunatly fallen on the back burner due to the pesky interference of paying work. With that particular intrusion becoming less so recently it gives me something to get back to, although being as I am capable as both a writer and a penciller it leaves me wanting an inker, colourist and letterer. So if there is anyone reading this that fancies a stage to practice their chosen art on a backburner project, feel free to drop me a line.

Another fun bonus about thumbing through old sketchbooks is finding old sketches - like this here Batman from the London Film and Comic Con 2011.

It's been great reading online recently about just how many people have taken a fancy to the 2000AD cover that Jamie Roberts and I were called on to do for the subscription only 'Tharg's Future Shocks'. As our first real breakthough book it flattering that it's created such a buzz. Copies are already racking up money on Ebay. So they are ones to keep ahold of!

Though Bubble thoughts.

Hey guys.

Thought Bubble was an awesome event. As always its great to reunite with Tim, GM and the rest of The Comic Book Alliance to spread the word about how great comics are and to let the uninformed know about the charity anthology “The Spirit of Hope”.

Eva and I had a great time checking out all of the new products on the market – and there are some bloody brilliant books out there. Case in point I picked up the first of the Elephantmen trades “Wounded Animals.” Signed by the gentleman Richard Starkings himself. I can’t wait to sit down properly and read through what could quite literally be the heaviest read ever.

As always, Kieron Gillen was a true gent and ended up sparking the thought that he would make a great Doctor Who. Interesting thought.

Speaking of Doctor Who, it’s always good to see (former) Doctor Who writer Tony Lee (and of course his right hand man) Dan Boultwood. If you have never heard of Dan Boultwood the man is probably my favourite artist not currently signed to one the big two. Google him, if you like my art, you will love his.

On the subject of art I managed to do a few sketches during the weekend – which those of you following my tweets (www.twitter.com/thegrantperkins ) will know about. For those of you who aren’t, here’s the kind of thing I got up to - as modeled by my lovely wife Eva ( www.twitter.com/terwitterbug )

Colin Baker as the 6th Doctor.

Hey there again guys.

I got so much positive feedback from my last blog featuring the painting of the 4th Doctor Tom Baker I decided to turn my hand to good old Sixie himself, Colin Baker. One of the more controversial incarnations of the Doctor, Colin was one of the most interesting to me as he played the charactor in such a dark manner. Although his garb was arguabley the most friendly looking, make no mistake, Colin played a bastard.

It's just a shame that we never saw the full transition through to number seven. Although I understand there are some great audio plays read by Colin out there that I'll have to track down to see if I can bridge the gap a little.

Two stores, one geek.

Hey guys.

DemonCon2 was an absolute blast. For such a small venue we pulled a lot of people in, a big thanks to everyone who showed up and everyone who had a hand in organizing it. I gotta get me back there next year. Not only was it a great day, but some genius had the idea of hosting the event in a cafe! None of this hunting around for a machine to get a Mars bar or a machine to serve piping hot coffee in a cheap plastic cup, we were on a bacon and cheese toasted sandwiches and fry ups. There was even coffee in real mugs. #livinglikekings.

In this blog I'd like to mention two very cool shops in Margate. The first of which is Comics and Sci-fi World which is in Margate Harbour old town. Howie Watson is a great friend of mine and long-time supporter of comics and bodybuilding (two things that are very dear to me). His shop is *the* place for any collector to pick up anything and everything awesome related to comics and sci-fi, plus he's a great bloke who knows his geekdom. Next time you are in Margate pop your head and see and say hi to Howie. If he doesn't impress you with his collection of most excellent action figures and graphic novels his biceps surely will.

Phoenix Fantasy Comics is located in Cliftonville High Street and is fairly new, although their current stock dates back a few years. They hope to start dealing with the 'weeklies' by December and become a comics fixture. Geeks of old may remember there being a 'Phoenix Fantasy' in Margate not so long ago. That shop was run by a very good friend of mine who is sadly no longer with us. A very kind fellow called Siegi. The new Phoenix Fantasy is named thus in his honour, a classy move in my opinion.

Both shops are excellently awesome is as much they are run by great people I'm proud to call friends, they both bring comics to Margate and they both support a certain local artist by letting him use their shops to force his artwork on the general public.

MCMExpo is only a few days away and I'll be there on the Saturday walking around with my sexypants wife. I'm planning on 'borrowing' a table or two from fellow artists and doing a sketch or three, so if you see me with a pencil, feel free to grab me.

Mortal Kombat.

Remember when when Mortal Kombat was kool? I loved the game right around the Trilogy era, just before it got all cocky and went all 3D. I loved that game, so much better that the Street Fighter games (which themselves are uber-funky).

That said, with all those X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe games I think we're about due for a Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter game. If for no other reason than to see Ryu's head ripped off by Sub-Zero.

Colossus and Nightcrawler are two of my favourite charactors to draw because you can have so much fun with them. Nightcrawler is like a Spider-Man without all that bothersome webbing so you can kinda pose him almost however you'd like while the big C has that lovely metal effect that is so simple to draw yet so effective.

Anywhooie, heres a little sketch from this evening spent listening to youtube video interviews with a couple of artists I dig, Skottie Young and Khary Randolph.

World Titans Federation.

Hey guys.

Recently I was contacted by writer Scott R. Schmidt to pencil a short comic about Gods wrestling each other. Gods and wrestling? I was all over that like soggy popcorn on a cinema floor.

I've just been informed that "World Titans Federation" or "WTF" for short has been picked up by 215 ink for an up and coming Anthology, which naturally is funkier than a monkey in a smoking jacket.

I've only uploaded a preview of the art here as I want you to buy the book when it comes out ( I'll blog more details as I get them ) but I like to keep you in the loop of what I'm up to.

There's a few other projects I'm working on right now that I'm keeping close to my chest but hopefully I'll be able to talk about them soon. In the meantime I'm still taking on more projects and commissions and am fairly approachable through E-Mail, Facebook, Twitter and several other networking services.

Bics 2011.

Hey guys.

Traffic has picked up a lot around here since I posted my last blog featuring the WWE Superstars. I've had positive feedback on the image from several of them including Paul Bearer, Road Dogg, Tyler Reks (who wasn't pictured), Mick Foley, Goldust and Bret "The Hitman" Hart himself.

For those of you who missed it scroll down.

BICS was a blast, despite seeming a much smaller event than events past. It's always good to see old faces and to meet so many new ones, fans and creators alike. Although I think I might have unintentionally offended Staz Johnson (who was drawing beside me at the time) when I commented that we looked like sisters. Sorry Staz.

Overall it was a great event with the Comic Book Alliance offering help and advice to anyone who would listen while selling copies of The Spirit of Hope hand over fist. This book has really taken off in a big way and I'm so proud to have been involved with such an awesome assembly of talents and for such a good cause.

A big thank you to everyone who turned out.

Got Attitude?

Hey guys and gals.

Last stop before heading off to BICS tomorrow morning and I wanted to share a commission with you. The story started a few months back when I did a pin up page of a few of my favourite wrestlers. I was very proud that William Moody (Paul Bearer himself) approved of my work.

Shortly afterwards I was contacted by a fan of the Attitude Era of the (then) WWF asking if I could draw one or two of his favourite wrestlers from that time period. So being the huge wrestling fan that I am we got talking and bounced more and more names off of each other until I hit the grim reality that I'd just signed on to draw all who we'd spoken about.

Now I understand that not EVERY Attitude Era wrestler is here, but my page was only so big.

Arseface - I'm back.

Good morning guys and gals and welcome back to TheGrantPerkins.com. I hope you all like the trendy new layout and can get to grips with the new aspects of the site (such as the flash galleries) without too much trouble – although if you do hit any stumbling blocks please drop me a line so I can set my Webmaster on them.

What have I been doing since my last real update wayyy back in June? For those of you who follow me Twitter you already know the answer – drawing, painting and attending as many conventions as I can to promote not only myself but also the awesomely awesome Spirit of Hope book.

Speaking of awesomely awesome books, Ryan Ballard has been putting together a book for his father (a huge fan of Preacher) by collecting original artwork from his favourite artists depicting various characters from the book and binding them together as a gift for him.

We've had a lovely family day out today watching a couple of wannabe lounge singers in Cliftonville murder as many songs as they could while happy old ladies clapped along. On the bright side though, there was cake and plenty of sunshine.

Hey guys and gals.

It was the first (hopefully) annual Comics Launchpad last weekend in Birmingham. The event was focused on established pros sharing their wealth of skills and knowledge with the next generation of comic book pros such as myself.

It was great to meet certain creators for the first time and others for the sixth or seventh (insert name dropping list here). The turnout was impressive and served to prove that Britain has a whole lot of talent coming up the comic book ranks very soon. Trust me readers, there’s some good things on the horizon.

Launchpad was also another chance for me to catch up with my Comic Book Alliance pals to help spread the word about The Spirit of Hope. If you haven’t heard about the book yet, shame on you.

The Spirit of Hope is an anthology of donated art from over 90 of the top international creators in the comic book industry.

The brainchild of the Comic Book Alliance it is hoped that with all proceeds being donated to support the survivors of the Tsunami and Earthquakes in Japan and New Zealand we can raise over £30,000.

Who likes wrestling?

That's right, we all do. We all have a favourite, be it Hulk Hogan or John Cena, Ric Flair or Randy Savage. We all have someone we love cheer or boo.

One of my long term favourites has been a man to very rarely lock up in the ring. A gentleman who preformed under the ring name of Paul Bearer. Managing The Undertaker (and others), Paul Bearer has been a staple of the WWE for years. Is he the best manager of all time? It's a close one, there is no doubt in my mind though that he's up there with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

Wrestling may not need managers these days, but it would be a hell of a kick to bring them back anyway.

Paul Bearer especially. The man is a credit to the industry and above all a pure gent.

Would you like to know a secret? I never used to like Dr. Who. It was always that show with Sylvester McCoy in that was a bit crap.

Once I grew up and got married Dr Who became one of those shows that I found myself watching because it was what everyone else wanted to watch. Eastenders and Dr Who for my WWE wrestling, it was a trade off. After a few episodes I found myself asking questions - Who is that guy? Didn't she die? WTF is THAT?? - And that was just Eastenders.

Soon I found myself using youtube and my co-workers ample DVD collection to catch up on 900 years of Dr Who. Now a uber-geek on the subject I find myself quite often harrassing Tony Lee on the subject in a rather embarrassing fan boy manner to the point where at a recent con he greeted me with "No you can't write or draw Doctor Who". Sorry Tony.

So I may not be able to write the Doctor, but I can provide silly doodles on the subject. See here and below.

When it comes to favourite movies of all time, my list is filled with classics that perhaps one might not expect. No Star Wars or Gone with the Wind for me. No Dark Knight in my top ten. Not that these aren't great movies, but I've always had a soft spot for such box office gold as Grease 2, Chasing Amy and The Wizard of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz (and the original novels) have been mammoth influences on me.

Without Oz there would be no Doxxville.

Hey guys and gals.

As you know, I'm a big supporter of both art and my home town of Margate, Kent. These two loves have come together recently for the opening of the Mighty Turner Centre in Margate Harbor.

There have been a lot of naysayers to this movement, but as a fan of both the above, I can only see it as a good thing. Not only will the centre be bringing in tourism and trade to the local area, which could in turn light the spark to revamp the decaying seafront and amusments, but it will offer a platform for local artist that didn't exist before.

As part of the opening of the Turner Centre, my lovely wife, along with a few friends, performed the song "The Red Volcano".

Kapow Comic Con was an absolute blast. Not only did I get to meet up with some old friends (and make some awesome new ones) I found myself in a strange light of respect as I was fortunate enough to offer out sage like advice to the next generation of creators as they let me thumb through their works. There's some great talents coming up in the next few years.

It was weird doing interviews for TV and radio, even weirder signing autographs, but nothing that I couldn't get used to. The important thing is that the convention was a success. Those out to make money, did. Those out to meet their favourite creator, did. Those out to enjoy the day, did. You can count me in for next year.

A big thank you must go out to the Comic Book Alliance though for helping so many of the smaller guys, myself included, make it to Kapow. Thanks guys.

In other news, I'm working on a fun little comic series based around the adventures of a young Thor. Not the Marvel guy, the "real" Thor. I'm writing and penciling right now, but will soon be needing an inker and possibly a colourist and letterer. I can't offer any pay, nor even promise that this project will ever see print, but if there's anyone interested in working on this, drop me a line.

Good morning Guys and Gals.

I've been on a self-inflicted Star Wars Marathon the last few hours and have worked through from Phantom Menace all the way to A New Hope (Luke is just buying R2D2 and C3PO).

It seems that Phantom Menace is best remembered for two contrasting character designs; the controvertial Jar-Jar Binks and the badass Sith Darth Maul.

The latter being the perfect subject for me to have a shot at painting, just because he's so damn cool.

24hrMonsters - A Red Nose Day Event.

Hey Guys and Gals.

With Red Nose day just around the corner, a good friend of mine Jamie Roberts is organising a call to arms for artist to take part in a 24hr long continous drawing session to help raise money for the event.

The idea is for artists to stream themselves drawing non-stop from this Friday at 6am for a full 24hrs drawing nothing but monsters. The artists will be raising money by either being sponsored for their endurance or/and by selling the work they produce along the way.

Unfortunately I'm unable to take part in the main event itself, but I have been able to produce this image which I hope Jamie will be able to auction off to raise a little money for the event.

This week I achieved a long term goal of mine, to be published by Marvel. As many of you know I'm a hugh fan of the product and have based a handful of my recent paintings on Marvel Superheroes. One of which being Iron Man, which now prouly features in the pages of Marvel Legends issue 56 - on sale now in all good newsagents and online.

Technically this is the second time Marvel have published me. I won a No-Prize and a Hologram set signed by Stan Lee when I was a young teen for writing a letter trying to get people to buy the MC Spy-D and Friends single.

On a personal note. Thank you very much for the kind words Brady. I couldn't ask for a nicer thing to be said about me.

So there we have it. Published by Image and now Marvel. DC, I'm gunning for you next.

Hey Guys.

I've been listening to Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers, as read by Chris Barrie while walking to and from work recently. As a huge fan of Red Dwarf I'm throughly enjoying it. Chris naturally has Rimmers voice down pat and his Lister is enjoyable. His Cat is just downright aweful though. Sorry Chris, Nobody wails like Danny John-Jules.

Anyhow, with RD being such a big part of my day I felt it a great topic for a sketch.

Is there anyone out there working on a RD comic book? Why the hell not? I'd be more than happy to write and draw the thing. It would be a great way of telling "Series 9".

I asked a question through my Twitter account recently about what everyone's favourite movie scenes were, one that I wasn't expecting, but is a very important scence (or collection of scenes) is when Luke first meets Yoda.

Now although Star Wars fans will forever seen the little green fellow as Jedi Master and all around ass kicker, to me, he will always be Fozzy Bear in an elf suit.

Still, it was a great scence and one that I felt I had to revisit.

This peice is 7 by 9 cms and is painted with oil paint on canvas using a toothpick. If anyone is interested it it avalible for the very reasonable price of £50.

Hey guys and gals.

As you may or may not know, depending on how well you follow this page, my tweets and Facebook, my Nana has been very ill the last six months. Ill to the point where we've had to move her into care. I won't go into the details as that's not what you need to read about, but I just wanted to share with you the trip we took a few days ago.

Now Nana isn't able to get out of the home much, so even a quick trip around the corner to a cafe for a coffee and Danish is a big deal. A deal we thought would have been made even bigger when she saw her grandsons' art work on the walls of the cafe. Although in typical Nana fashion, she was far too interested in the young men serving the coffee to pay attention to my labours.

Still, she had a nice afternoon out and the cafe staff were very pleasent and helpful. The service was great and the prices reasonable.

If you pop along to the Cafe in Margate Station, tell them I sent you. You probably won't see Nana there, but you will get a great service and get to see some pretty pictures on the wall.

What do you think of the idea of smaller, more affordable paintings?

This mesures just 7 by 9 cm and was painted using a toothpick (as seen at the bottom of the photo). Naturally it's harder to get as much detail in using this size canvas, but what do you think?

Would you buy a compact painting such as this?

I'm thinking they might be an idea for conventions and such.

Making an exhibition of myself at Margate Train Station.

If you're out and about in Margate any time soon, it's worth remembering that the cafe just inside Margate Train Station has recently just reopened. Not only is it a great place to get some eats at a decent price, the staff there are very friendly, plus they have some top notch art on the walls from local artists.

You'll have to forgive the reflections on the photo as we made it down too late and they were closed when this picture was taken.

So next time you're out an about pop in and grab a cuppa.

Well the holidays are over and it's back to work. Well that's not strictly true. Work never stopped for me as I've been sneaking back to the studio between bouts of the flu and the Christmas festivities to try and keep the work flow going.

I've just finished up this iconic image of the late Bill Bixby in his most famous role alongside the man mountain Lou Ferrigno. Shamefully I only have faint memories of the TV series (although I'd love the DVD boxset - My birthday is only 9 months away!) but those TV Movies stayed with me. In fact Trial of The Incredible Hulk was the first Stan Lee cameo I ever spotted - I was so proud. Now it's harder to spot a movie that the old codger ISN'T in ;)

Hey guys and gals.

The festive season is upon us. Since my last blog - which I believe was about four and a half years ago, many things have happened.

1: I've been continuing my search for an agent. The hunt has been long and hard and as of yet I've not managed to bag one. Although I do believe I've picked up ones scent just outside Albuquerque.

2: I pulled my back about ten days ago moving my PC monitor and have been (as it was pointed out to me at work recently) walking like Robo-Cop. I'm hoping to get back into the gym soon though as I'm missing it. I'm always careful not to do anything too heavy after a back injury for fear of setting it off again.

3: I received some colours back on a four pager that I both wrote and drew for Ripperman several years back. These will finally be seeing print in the new Ripperman book coming your way very shortly. I'll have more details on it's release hopefully very soon.

4: Eva and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. How in the hell she's managed to put up with me for that long I couldn't tell you, but so long as she keeps it up I'll be a happy Grant.

5: We had snow. It was snow like.

6: I painted this.

I only finished this one up last night so it's still very wet. Once it becomes touch dry and I can move it about I'll take some better photos to upload to my paintings page.

I'd love to say how awesome it would be for you to buy this painting as a Christmas gift for a loved one, but the truth of the matter is that it wouldn't be dry by then. So I'll close out this blog by telling you how much a loved one would enjoy having the above Wolverine painting as a romantic Valentines gift. After all, no one says I love you like an angry Mutant.

Looking for a Literary Agent for Dwayne Hickenbottom.

Hey guys and gals.

I’m feeling frustrated and confused today. The increasing debt and long hours sweeping the floor at work has pushed me once again to take my self published novels Dwayne Hickenbottom and the War Boots of Doxxville and Dwayne Hickenbottom and the Journey to the Centre of the Birth and attempt to get them on the shelves where I believe they belong.

I first published Dwayne Hickenbottom and the War Boots of Doxxville back in 2006 and it sold well over a hundred copies that year. Okay, so it’s not a patch on J.K. Rowlings, but for a first time writer from Margate, Kent, that nobody has heard of it was bloody brilliant. Even now, the books (and it’s 2009 sequel) are selling, just not as well as they could were they given more exposure.

The exposure I need will come from getting the books on the shelves in places such as Waterstones and WHSmith, only in order to do this I need to find myself a Literary Agent – Something that I’m unsure of how to achieve. I have physical books that are proven to be able to sell (and not just to people I know - Dwayne Hickenbottom has shipped internationally since his 2006 debut) I just need someone to swoop down and take them off of my hands and turn them into money.

Dwayne Hickenbottom has proved popular with all who have read the books. There have been some very flattering reviews put up in various corners of the internet which have spurred me to start plotting the third novel, but until the first two find their way into the mainstream and start helping with those bills I’m not sure where I’ll find the time to let my fingers dance across the keyboard like they’re itching to.

So if you are a Literary Agent looking for a new talent or know of one, please please get in touch. You never know, we could make each other rich – or at least make enough to patch the hole where the rain comes in above my desk.

Day three in the facial hair house.

Well this is humiliating, but then I guess that's part of the fun. Day three of Movember and I've had my first shave, although you'd hardly be able to tell unless you approached me in good light with a high-powered telescope.

Can you see those hairs? See them? Don't feel embarrassed if you have to open the photo in Photoshop and use the zoom feature. They are there. I assure you. Honest.

I'm doing my best to grow the largest size moustache the rules allow. They call it the Trucker but I call it the Hogan. That way I can always trim down to something smaller. Eva wants me to go Errol Flin, but that just makes me look like a cop from an 80's police show.

Remember when you were little and there was always that one kid that would lick one side of the cookies to make sure that no one else ate them?

Well one of my dogs has a great new slant on that. He eats as much dinner as he can as quick as he can then pukes it up in his bed as if to say "This food is mine. You can have some if you want, but I don't think you do."

Happy Birthday Grant / Get Well Soon Nana.

Hey guys.

First and foremost, let me thank all of you that sent me texts, e-mails and wrote on my Facebook wall to wish me a happy birthday for yesterday. I was shocked and honoured at the amount of you guys that remembered little old me. Although just how much of that was down to Facebook making it so easy these days to wish someone a "Happy Birthday" is another thing.

From the minute one logs in to Facebook to see what their friends are up to or to harvest their farm, Facebook magically reminds them that so-and-so is having a birthday and that you should write on their wall and wish them the best. A genius idea really. You never have to remember a birthday nor spend money on a card again. And what's more, from this side of things, it means so much. I think just under 70 of my Facebook friends contacted me in some way or another through the site, and each one made me smile.

Thanks guys.

I had a fun birthday this year. I got to do the important things, like spend time with family and friends and eat a big pizza.

It was especially important to me that I was able to head up to the hospital (that I was born at some 31 years ago) to spend a little more time with my Nana. She had a fall in the night a few days ago and was found by my Uncle laying by her bed with no real idea of just how long she'd been there.

She's battered and bruised and sporting a broken arm (her left, which being left handed makes things all the worse for her). Physically, she's going to be alright, but mentally we're not so sure as she has no idea how she came to be in Hospital and why her arm is sore. She has no idea what the current year is and is unsure of the names of her nearest and dearest. She still has her wicked sense of humour though:

Doctor: How do you feel?

Nana: With my hands.

Doctor: Do you know where you are?

Nana: Yes. I’m in a bed.

It's been good spending so much time with her the last few days (time I really should have been able to find before the accident) but a shame that it's been under such circumstances. All the poor dear wants is to come home, but she can't see why she can't.

So I'm thinking about thinking about getting one of these new fangled digital art tablets to become more independent and efficient as a comic book artist, but I've got no idea what they are about.

I'm primarily looking for something that I can ink with. I'm a lazy inker though, so I'd want a device that I can either draw directly onto or trace over scanned in pencils to make smooth Illustrator like lines. So a touch screen type deal is required as my mouse skill are lacking.

I'd also like said device to be able to run adobe Illustrator and Photoshop so I can colour and letter.

Said device would also have to be portable so I could work on the go and allow me to do other fun mobile things such as read digital comics/ebooks should the opportunity arrive.

So Tech-Heads, What do I need and how cheap can I get it?

Toy Story 3.

Hey guys.

It's been a minute since I was able to post any art work up here, for which I apologise. The reason for this (as I've been alluding to through my tweets) is that I've been working on an extremely large painting to promote the release of Toy Story 3 this month.

The image is produced in my usual style of oil on canvas and spreads across three 24 by 30 inch canvas making the full image a giant 72 by 30 inches!

Sorry about the quality of the pictures. I fully intend to get some better shots when the work is dry and I'm able to hang as apposed to laying it out on the floor.

If the above image is too small, click it to open it up larger in a new window or scroll down for individual shots.

Once this is dry it will be displayed at the local Vue cinema in the same way my Iron Man piece was.

Shortly afterwards it will be available for purchase.

Vue my Iron Man / Poorly Boy Grant.

What a nasty couple of days it's been.

I woke up on Monday with a pain in my abdomen like I had done 5 to 6 hundred sit ups. Now I have upped my training recently, but I've done zero or less ab work. As the pain lasted all morning, increasing as time ticked by, Eva suggested we phoned the doctors. The doctors agreed that I was showing all of the classic signs of appendicitis so off we trotted to my local surgery.

Only we didn't as they were full.

So after a little longer of laying on the couch feeling like Tyson had been practicing his left hook on my belly, Eva and I went up to A and E.

A and E was scary for me as the last time we were there it was Eva who was ill and wanting to go home (she would eventually be kept in for a week) but this was my turn. I didn't want to stay there. My head had been filled with the idea that my appendix was coming out there and then and that I'd have to stay there in a hospital bed for a few days.

What Eva didn't know at the time was that I'd bought us both tickets to go and see Wicked again (we first went on our Honeymoon) this Saturday for her birthday on Tuesday. So I was beside myself not only with pain, but worry that I'd ruined my wife's birthday surprise.

So we're in A and E and I'm being poked and prodded. I get a drip put in my arm (which freaked me out as I'd never had that before and took it as a sign that I'd be kept in and would miss Wicked at the weekend (it's silly to think that I was in a situation where I could have been on the operating table any minute and all I could think about was missing a stage show!). They even gave me a stomach x-ray to figure out what wrong.

After throwing up on a doctor (which amused a nurse) they decided my appendix was fine and sent me home.

That night I got about an hours sleep before getting up and blowing my guts out of my mouth again.

I'd arranged cover at work for Tuesday so I could spend Eva's birthday with her, unfortunately I spent the day laying on the couch watching the comedy channel instead as any movement felt like a elephant tap dancing on my belly button. Laying down I could get into a reasonably painless position, but walking around made it feel like I had a weighted meat hook hanging from behind my navel and through my testicles.

We're now on Thursday and the pain is nearly gone. I'm still taking it easy and I've not puked since Tuesday morning, but I am having a similar effect the other end of the body.

Hopefully I should be back at work tomorrow.

Speaking of work - ARTwork that is. I've managed to have a little word with those kind fellows and fellowettes at The Vue regarding their Iron Man promotion and they've been kind enough to show support to this local artist and let me hang my recent Iron Man painting up there as part of their display. So if you are passing up by Westwood Cross in the next few weeks, feel free to stop by and check it out.

In other art related news. It seems that there has been some movement on the Hero Happy Hour front. My good man Dan Taylor has sobered up and swaggered back behind the bar and is pouring out some letters for one more round.

Work, Air Con, Gym and Balls.

Hey guys n' gals.

It's been a minute since I was last here as the new job seems to have taken my life away. As much as it sucks having to devote so much of my life to something that isn't my Wife, Son, Art or Gym, it's a welcome change to be having money coming in - so it's not something I will complain about. (EDIT: Not that there IS anything to complain about, it's a great job that I love *Hi Ben, Amanda and Co' :)* )

Speaking of my son, today has been a great day as I've had time to spend with him. We got to do silly things like go for a walk together (or rather he had me push him in the buggy) and catch the bus to Margate. Nothing overly exciting, but it was just nice to be together.

As a treat for being such a good boy I took him to "Walley World" on Margate seafront to burn off all the energy he saved up being pushed around in the buggy.

Please excuse my voice, I'm not sure if I really sound that bad or if its because I'm all bunged up from spending 10hrs stood in the freezing cold under an air con unit (don't ask).

Things on the art front are a little slow right now. I've big plans and lots of paintings on the horizon, but time is fleeting (time warp anyone?) and I've not got anything new to show you guys (yet) but stay tuned. Big things are coming.

Speaking of big things (Warning, tedious self flattering segway) I've been back at the gym a lot recently. My step brother half inched a bunch of day passes for the local gym so I've been burning through them (free IS my favourite price). The facilities there are great and the gym is very close to where I work, so I think it's only a matter of time before I dust off my wallet and fork out to join for real.

Anyway, that's it for now. I've only got about an hour left to myself before Eva comes home from choir and I've still got to sort my things for tomorrow (and maybe have ten minutes on FFXIII)
